HEAD TO TOE SKINCARE TIPS
Every girl deserves to look and feel her best. Personally, I think the best way to make myself feel beautiful is to indulge in a day at the spa. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn’t always agree! Getting pampered at the spa can get expensive quickly, but fortunately for me, there are plenty of luxurious spa life hacks that can be done at home. The best part is that they are all pretty simple, and I can even invite my girlfriends over to share in my DIY spa day!
This post is going to be dedicated to sharing all of my favorite DIY spa life hacks with you, that way you and your best friends can have your own relaxing spa day at home.
START WITH SLEEK HAIR
Spa life hack number one is to start with your hair and work your way down.
There are lots of recipes for hair masks, but I’m going to give you a few of the recipes that I always turn to when my hair needs a little bit of extra love. You might want to invest in a comfortable, disposable shower cap for these hair masks though. Some of them can be a little messy, and you’ll want to leave them on your hair for awhile to really let them work.
The first hair mask I use all the time is plain, cold-pressed coconut oil.
I actually keep an entire jar of coconut oil in my kitchen because it is useful for so many beauty hacks. How much you need really just depends on how long and thick your hair is. The coconut oil will provide deep conditioning and give your hair a ton of beautiful shine. I melt a generous amount in my hands and massage it into my hair, starting about halfway down the shaft and taking it all the way to my ends. My scalp tends to get oily, so I keep it far away from my roots, but if you have a very dry or itchy scalp, it doesn’t hurt to massage a little bit of oil onto your scalp.
Another great DIY treatment is scalp exfoliating.
You can either make your own with some coarse sugar and olive oil, or you can invest in a bottle of Jungle Botanics Natural Body Glow Nutshell Scrub. I used to make the sugar and oil scrub all the time until I decided to try the Jungle Botanics scrub one day when I was feeling lazy, and it works just as well as my homemade recipe. It’s important to be very gentle and careful when you’re doing a scalp scrub though, because you don’t want to damage your hair by scrubbing too hard. The Jungle Botanics scrub contains smooth, finely ground walnut shells, which means it is gentle and non-irritating. It also contains 10 nourishing plant oils and cacao seed butter to nourish your scalp while you exfoliate away all of the product buildup that may have accumulated over time.
*this natural scrub can be used for both body and scalp.*
After your hair mask is working, it’s time to move on to your face. If you’re going to mix up your own DIY wash-off masks, it’s important that you stick with recipes that are minimal and nourishing. I prefer to play it safe and use a luxury sheet mask or pack on my favorite wash-off mask.
When my skin needs extra nourishment, I like to use the I’m From Honey mask. It’s full of herbal honey, propolis and bee venom, as well as hazelnut and macadamia oil. It is perfect for days when my skin is feeling dull, dry or irritated.
My favorite mask is actually the I’m From Vitamin Tree wash-off mask. Not only is it luxurious (and fun!), but it is able to help with just about every skin problem I have. It is purifying, detoxifying, brightening and vitamin-rich.
If you’re looking to create a DIY mask, try a thick coat of organic honey, or a mixture of plain Greek yogurt and soothing oatmeal.
GIVE YOUR FEET SOME LOVE
I don’t know about you, but my feet always feel like they need some extra pampering. Between wearing heels and my busy lifestyle, my feet tend to take a lot of abuse. Even if I don’t have the time or energy for a full day of at-home spa pampering, I do like to make time for taking care of my feet.
The first thing I do is set up a foot soak for myself. You should make sure that you have something relaxing that you can sit and do for awhile before you start this part of your DIY spa day life hack. It can be movies, binge watching your favorite TV show, reading, coloring, or even something like knitting. Just be sure you can stay sitting for awhile! I like to sprinkle a little of my favorite aromatherapy bath salts into the water, and if your feet feel dry, you can even add a few drops of oil.
After you have let your feet soak for as long as you can stand, you can towel them off and then move on to exfoliating. I usually just reach for the Jungle Botanics scrub I mentioned earlier for this part. My heels can get very rough, so I keep an Italy towel on hand to really work the scrub into the bottoms of my feet. Since the skin on your feet will be soft from the soak, you will be able to polish your heels with much less work.
Once your feet have been soaked and scrubbed, you should add a few layers of moisture, seal it with your favorite thick cream, and then cover them in cozy socks to keep them baby soft and looking beautiful.
No matter whether you have time to do a head-to-toe spa day or only enough time for one of these pampering rituals, you will be able to use these DIY spa hacks to make yourself feel beautiful without emptying your wallet.
